Buds

Whats the best way to end up with tight firm buds? My plants product good buds but not as firm as most pics look. Some say to dramaticly cool the 12 12 room aweek or so befor harvest? whats the best way to do it? or is it mostly the strain that ends up that way? I hope I'm making some sense

I'm sure others will chime in with environmental influences like light, CO2, nutrients, etc. I wanted to mention the variation with different strains. I recently harvested plants from 3 different strains, 5 different phenotypes. They grew in identical conditions, but have widely varying bud densities. All were grown under 2000W and finished well-fed and happy, but two strains only grew medium-density buds, while others had very firm, 1 ounce colas.
