N.J. -- New Jersey officials today announced which nonprofit organizations can start growing and selling medical marijuana. Six organizations received licenses to grow and distribute cannabis. The state's rules call for the alternative treatment centers to be set up in northern, central and southern New Jersey.

 

For the northern region encompassing Warren County, marijuana dispensaries are planned in Secaucus, Hudson County, and Montclair, Essex County, according to the state Department of Health and Senior Services.

 

For the central region that covers Hunterdon County, medical marijuana will be sold in Manalapan, Monmouth County, and New Brunswick, Middlesex County.

 

The southern region dispensaries will open in Bellmawr, Camden County, and a location still to be determined in Burlington or Camden County.

 

The state adopted a law more than a year ago allowing pot to be sold to patients with certain conditions. But implementation has been delayed as officials crafted rules spelling out how the industry would work.

 

Today's announcement is a major milestone in bringing medical marijuana to the most populous East Coast state to allow it.

 

Patients or caregivers will have to pay a $200 registration fee, which is valid for two years, to buy medical marijuana in New Jersey. A reduced fee of $20 would be paid by patients who qualify for certain state or federal assistance programs.

 

Patients will be able to buy a maximum of 2 ounces in any 30-day period.

 

State health officials have not pinpointed when sales would begin, only that marijuana growing and processing can begin following today's identification of alternative treatment centers.

wow i might be moving there soon good to hear some progress is made... still concerned about the pot their allowed to start growing i have read its going to be a severely diminished thc ratio compared to normal medical grade marijuana... any thoughts?

Sketchy at best...... Who are the organizations allowed dispense? Merk, phizer, Lilly.....blah blah blah. lol. What a joke, California and Colorado have a good thing going for the most part, base models off those states.

All tinkle in the wind folks, the legislature intends to abolish the rules that established these centers because they are so draconian in their implementation. This could drag on for years, unless Christie suddenly needs chemotherapy...

Last time I looked, we in Michigan are fortunate to have a medical mj law that is waaaaay better than RI, NJ, CA, and CO.

 

You don't know what you got till it's gone....

 

Ours is a true popular initiative that favors patients and caregivers as the transfer model. If you allow the dispensary advocates the leeway to determine what changes or additional laws they would favor, well, I am sorry but it is human nature to take what they want and leave the rest. I cannot support that type of small oligarchy.

 

If they had the courage of their convictions they would try a ballot initiative of their own. That would clearly show the will of the people, eh?

Our law is the best if it were acknowledged by law enforcement. Unfortunately it's not and it's scary for alot of us. I'm saying if your going to write provisions for dispensaries then make it like Colorado or California. They charge big licensing fees but no matter what type of business you start you have to have capital.
