Anyone Have Any Real Experiences With Meloxicam?

Recommended Posts

My fiance was recently prescribed Meloxicam tablets 7.5 mg for her osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis and frankly, after reading the sheet on this one, I dunno if I want her taking it.

Scary stuff to say the least from what I'm reading, but does anyone here have any REAL WORLD experiences with this drug? If so I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences.

My fiance is in her 30's and has lost almost 3 inches in height in less than 2 years. :notfair:

Thanks brothers and sista's.

OK, I just took a look. The brand name of Meloxicam is Mobic.

I took Mobic for arthritus pain after they pulled a different one from the market. Took it for a couple of years, maybe longer.

I did not have any problem at all, I was maybe about 40 at the time. It was prescribed by my family physician, general practitioner.

Hope this helps.

Went to a specialist and started meloxicam 15 mg one a day . I am pain free and no side affects.I don't like to take pills but take a blood pressure, cholesterol, meloxicam, and a 81 mg aspirin each day that and my MM keep this 67 yr old out playing golf and having fun. Good luck

Meloxicam is in the Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory (NSAID) class of drugs. Other products in this same class you may be familiar with include Motrin/Advil (Ibuprofen) and Aleve (Naproxen). It is of a particular chemical structure allowing for once daily dosing, allowing for more consistant relief of inflammatory pain for chronic pain patients such as arthritics. In my professional opinion it is safer with less side effects than either of the other two products I mentioned.

Meloxicam, both on paper and via customer feedback is generally well tolerated with few, if any, side effects. As with all NSAID's, there is an increased risk of gastrointestinal adverse affect such as stomach bleeding, ulceration or in the worst case scenario perforation of the stomach or intestines. These occur in 1% to 4% of patients taking it for over 1 year. Well, I guess the worst case scenario is bleeding to death from said perforation. This would only occur after long term use, as it blocks the same substance that causes both inflammation leading to pain and regeneration of the stomach lining.

By far the most common side effect would be upset stomach, which is rare in itself, and can be lessened by taking Meloxicam with food. The important thing is to report any unusual stomach pain or bloody stools to ones physician immediately.

Recent studies have shown long term use can also lead to an increased risk of sudden heart problems such as heart attacks and strokes. Not really sure why.

In my opinion, considering the millions of doses of this class of drug given out each year, people underestimate the potential for danger of these drugs, but the reality is the above listed side effects are extremely, extremely rare, and the benefits outweigh the risks in almost all cases.

I like Meloxicam, and think it's a good inexpensive choice for chronic inflammatory pain sufferers, particularly arthritics.
