http://www.tuscolato...in-caro-monday/ CARO — Ever since voters approved the Michigan Medical Marijuana Act (MMMA) Nov. 4, 2008, there has been controversy and confusion over it.

In an effort to try to answer some questions, Tuscola County Prosecutor Mark Reene and some others from the Prosecutors Association of Michigan will host a seminar on MMMA 8 p.m., Monday, at the Brentwood Restaurant, 178 Park Drive in Caro.

Municipal leaders are encouraged to attend, and the event is also open to the public. marijuana_leaf_pic-Copy-150x150.jpg

During the summer of 2010, Tuscola County officials helped coordinate a MMMA seminar in Frankenmuth for area cities, villages and townships in the area to familiarize themselves with the new law, but that event was not well attended. So when MMMA businesses started opening, most municipalities were caught off guard with ordinances to regulate locations.

Even though the act was approved by voters in 2008, it wasn’t until April 6, 2009 that patients could start applying to the state department of health for identification cards that are supposed to prevent them from being arrested for the doctor-advised, medical use of marijuana.

However, that isn’t always the case because federal law still prohibits it.

It comes down to a matter for the state and federal lawmakers to iron out, and state lawmakers are in the process of making clarification revisions to the law.
