Fed Court Oks Immunity For Telecoms To Spy On You

Heads-up American citizens.. bad news out today.. a Fed. Appeals Court gives immunity to telecom companies for eavesdropping on you.

Be very afraid. This degrades your liberty. Oh sure, it may get appealed to US Supreme Court...years out. Meanwhile be vigilant in following safety protocols when using electronic comm. systems of -all- types. You are being recorded and uploaded to Big Brother for real.

Here in Michigan add on hostility from Courts / Attorney General / legislature / prosecutors / cops who are making registered patients suffer more setbacks in their legal use of doctor-recommended therapeutic herbal compounds. I don't get that, being MI passed the MMMAct, but it is what it is and we gotta be smart or we will lose our privileges. Folks, get educated on your rights before you have none left to protect. I invite all opinions in this thread on this important new threat to our community.

Summary: The Patriot Act endangered freedom of movement and free speech; today, three more American values became diluted:

1. your First Amendment rights.

2. your civil rights.

3. your due process.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- 12-30-2011

A federal appeals court has ruled as constitutional a law giving telecommunications companies legal immunity for helping the government with its email and telephone eavesdropping program.

Thursday's unanimous ruling by a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed a lower court decision regarding the 2008 law.

The appeal concerned a case that consolidated 33 different lawsuits filed against various telecom companies, including AT&T, Sprint Nextel, Verizon Communications Inc. and BellSouth Corp. on behalf of these companies' customers.

The court noted comments made by the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence regarding the legal immunity's role in helping the government gather intelligence.

"It emphasized that electronic intelligence gathering depends in great part on cooperation from private companies ... and that if litigation were allowed to proceed against persons allegedly assisting in such activities, 'the private sector might be unwilling to cooperate with lawful government requests in the future,'" Judge M. Margaret McKeown said.

The plaintiffs, represented by lawyers including the San Francisco-based Electronic Frontier Foundation and the American Civil Liberties Union, accuse the companies of violating the law and the privacy of its customers through collaboration with National Security Agency on intelligence gathering.

The case stemmed from new surveillance rules passed by Congress in 2008 that included protection from legal liability for telecommunications companies that allegedly helped the U.S. spy on Americans without warrants.

It is not enough that we get ensnared in a law meant to provide protection to us, but now all of our communication is being monitored.

I will be watching and listening. For now that's all.

What a way to silence free speech! !!

I cannot fu**ing stand where we are headed.

We all should realize our names are on the "list". I for one will not give them any more quotes to use against me.

Scared No.

Paranoid Hell Yes.

This country is totally f'd up.

Peace and love

This used to be our country, and will be again. Civil unrest is building and the people can and WILL take our nation back. Overthrow, and overgrow.

This is what happens when a country turns from democracy to socialist values. Our government has betrayed us all.

Exercise your right to vote, protest and recall. They get away with it because we allow them to. If we don't give them the ability to take our liberties and rights away, then they are just like us.

However, with the new laws in our nation, even talking about not being happy with our government gives them the grounds to arrest and detain you without trial for however long they want! Way to go America!

Yeah, sickening! But the problem is, they are so quick to slam people that are just speaking their minds and doing what they know is right! And many people are still so naive to what is really happening out there!!

People need to Stand Tall and work together! Theyve been betraying us for years, but it seems the one that in office now, is working hard and fast to take even more rights away and to make it easy for the country to turn into a police state! Firing police officers, to buy bigger and badder military grade equiptment, cars full of it, that officers never use! Until they need to! when will that be, and is it to keep us safe, NO its to keep us at Bay and scared!!!!!

time to throw out the cell phone...

Or perhaps convert to an anonymous prepaid cell phone.

If you do, figure out ways not to compromise that new number to LEO, such as not calling a person from your existing cell then calling them ten seconds later from the prepaid phone and repeating that error for every person on your contacts list. Dead give-away history on your old phone call record.
