Apologies in advance. Anybody read Malcom Gladwell's piece in the New Yorker?

Is Marijuana as Safe as We Think?  https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2019/01/14/is-marijuana-as-safe-as-we-think

I don't begrudge Gladwell for raising legitimate questions about potential risks of using cannabis. There are certainly some people who should not use cannabis (at least in some forms/potency) just like any drug (or food!) But he goes off the deep end  when he starts relying on Alex Berenson's "manifesto," “Tell Your Children: The Truth About Marijuana, Mental Illness, and Violence." Berenson relies highly on Erik Messamore, "a psychiatrist who specializes in neuropharmacology and in the treatment of schizophrenia"  who "theorizes that THC may interfere with the brain’s anti-inflammatory mechanisms, resulting in damage to nerve cells and blood vessels. Is this the reason, Berenson wonders, for the rising incidence of schizophrenia in the developed world, where cannabis use has also increased?"

OMG.

SO much wrong with this but I'll just point to  http://www.schizophrenia.com/szfacts.htm which states Rates of schizophrenia are generally similar from country to country

Anyway, there is some sanity in the world: https://www.civilized.life/articles/twitter-malcolm-gladwell-marijuana-piece/
