ultimate betrayal part 2

STEVE HAGAR: "There are 50 million pot smokers in America ... and unless the government takes us all out and shoots us, we're not going to back down," he said.

"We know the truth about marijuana We'll die for this cause”.

A scarcity of internationally grown outdoor equatorial cannabis smuggled into the USA replaced by cocaine, created a demand for a domestic market…

a Domestic indoor market…a Domestic indoor market identifying the hidden demand in the black market and monitored users and cultivators from start to finish‘The Government pushed growers indoors," says Allen St. Pierre, assistant national director of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. "Before programs like CAMP" -- the Campaign Against Marijuana Planting, which targeted outdoor growers in California from 1982 to 1985 –

"you almost never heard about indoor grass."

High times and its trojan horse ilk

  1.   Steve Hager, HT's Editor-in-Chief

“The whole reason we told people to grow their own pot was to get rid of the criminal element …

Steve Hagar: “if you want this we'll tell you how to grow it.”

2..Steve Hagar: “We started organizing rallies and politicizing people around the hemp issue,

using the hemp issue to draw people out of the closet and get them active in the protest movement, and we were very successful.

3.“Steve Hagar: ”And at the same time we started promoting the indoor cultivation of marijuana”.

Steve Hagar : "The magazine returned to primarily covering marijuana and started getting involved in the marijuana legalization movement in a big way.

“ Another regular feature is "Trans-High Market Quotations," a sort of stock index of the drug trade, listing current marijuana prices in select cities across the country.

Those features have made the magazine a red flag to DEA, whose officials have described High Times as an open invitation to violate the drug laws.

 4. Steve Hagar “At the same time we were ridiculing Bennett. We called him drug bizarre

“So that drew a lot of attention from the newly established drug czar, William Bennett”

“Founded in the early 1970s, High Times continues to promote the values of the drug-using counterculture of that era. It publishes articles touting the medical and environmental virtues of marijuana, attacking government drug policies and, more recently, ridiculing national drug control director William J. Bennett ("What Jerks! Bennett Blasts Pot While Aide Has Nicotine Fit," read one recent headline.)”

Whether High times worked indirectly or directly with law enforcement or not makes no difference there is no doubt that they help set up and drive the

"bunny muffin where you sleep indoor cannabis market"

High times showed people how to grow marijuana indoors under artificial lighting during a hot drug war where they taught their new victims the new…(criminal element) to grow at night when the air was cooler and the electricity cheaper. Growing at night made it easy to identify the indoor rooms using( (FLIR cameras)and high electric bills. High times got people to participate in civil disobedience and to join opposition groups so that the demand in a hidden market could be identified. Ann arbor hash bash comes to mind.

“Marijuana growers are easy targets,” Allen St. Pierre of Norml says. As criminals, many of them are docile and amateurish, leaving behind a trail of U.P.S. records and credit card receipts as they set up their gardens; once established, a marijuana garden is much easier to find than any white-powder drug operation and arresting officers are far less likely to encounter resistance. Another powerful incentive is the asset forfeiture rules, which were liberalized during the drug war to allow agencies to keep the proceeds of whatever they seize. Since the crime of growing marijuana is by its very nature tied to a particular place—a house and a plot of land—seizing the assets of pot growers is particularly easy. All these factors help explain why, according to Norml, there were more arrests in 1994 for crimes involving marijuana than for all other illicit drugs combined.

“In recent years the federal Drug Enforcement Agency (“DEA”) has subpoenaed records from shipping companies to obtain information about customers of businesses selling equipment that might be used for growing marijuana.”

In 1985 the United States Congress began passing laws to criminalize the sale of legal products for illegal pursuits—such as grow lights used for cannabis cultivation or glass pipes used for cannabis consumption. Because of this new statute, instead of doing flyovers to look for outdoor operations federal agents began keeping an eye on the ever-expanding cannabis pop culture outlets. “

“The government began to equate hydroponics equipment distributors with cannabis growers, regardless of the fact that only a very small percent of hydroponic equipment purchased was used to grow Mary Jane.

High Times describes cyber gardening as “an exciting technology that has raced far ahead of ethics, law enforcement and government and corporate control.” Indeed.

“The technology will make it possible for a grower to tend his franchise gardens from the safety of a computer in Amsterdam; theoretically at least, he would need to visit the grow room only to plant and to harvest.

Here it comes….

(A mislead for public consumption)

In the future, the D.E.A. may find the gardens but not the gardeners.

Now watch why the previous sentence misleads….

“By 1989 gardening stores were beginning to worry that trouble was on the way and started to refuse service to individuals asking about growing grass.

High Times and Sinsemilla Tips, which were both created to share gardening tips and the latest in cannabis breeding and production,

*proved a valuable resource to narcotics detectives. “

By looking at stores that advertised in these periodicals, and tracking the purchase records of their customers, law enforcement hoped to find and disenfranchise marijuana farmers across the country.”

“Sanctioned by the Bush administration, agents started looking at utility companies’ records for individuals with abnormally high energy use—like the kind needed to run an indoor grow operation—and served subpoenas to UPS to track orders for hydroponics equipment. Then, in 1991, government sleuths started subpoenaing  customer records from hydroponics stores, including customer addresses.

DEA officials later confirmed that the list of specialty stores raided was culled from advertisers in High Times as well as in Sinsemilla Tips, a competing Oregon-based journal published by marijuana activist Tom Alexander. “

(Alexander's indoor-gardening store, located in the same building as his magazine, was among those shut down by the raids.)

“ Another regular feature is "Trans-High Market Quotations," a sort of stock index of the drug trade, listing current marijuana prices in select cities across the country. Those features have made the magazine a red flag to DEA, whose officials have described High Times as an open invitation to violate the drug laws”.

“In recent years the federal Drug Enforcement Agency (“DEA”) has subpoenaed records from shipping companies to obtain information about customers of businesses selling equipment that might be used for growing marijuana. “

“The DEA had decided to investigate the advertising inside the High Times and Sinsemilla Tips with the goal of shutting down the blooming indoor marijuana industry using United Parcel Service records to trace deliveries of indoor growing equipment and seeds.”

Now, court records show, DEA is focusing on High Times' relationship with one particular advertiser -- Schoenmakers, an Amsterdam-based firm that publishes the Seed Bank, an annual "prize-winning" marijuana seed catalogue.

One recent ad for the Seed Bank in High Times offers readers a selection of "top hybrids and pure strains from all over the world. Some recent discoveries include the amazing, exotic Haze ... and the heavy yielding, pungent Garlic Bud ... along with such classic favorites as Early Pearl, Skunk #1, Northern Lights, G-13 and Hash Plant

“Nevil's seed factory has been in business for three years and it perfectly legal “

“Last year his company supplied $500.000 worth of seeds to 15,000 American growers”

“he is a protected national asset nonetheless”.

“Every day letters pour into his post office box, letters containing American dollars wrapped in carbon paper to avoid detection”.

Steve Hagar the former editor of high times… the creator of the cannabis cup in Holland. Steve helped too legitimized advertisements of cannabis seed in catalogs in the magazine including politicizing the magazine.

The idea that seeds were legal in holland helped to coax people to buy the illegal seeds from the catalogue’s advertised in high times after all a newly created indoor domestic market needed the special bred seeds in order to grow in the closet indoors.

“Exporting or importing viable seeds had to be licensed”

Plant growth and gland isolation

Seeds from the marijuana cultivar Skunk no. 1 were provided by HortaPharm BV (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) and imported under a US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to a registered controlled substance research facility. Plants were grown under hydroponic conditions in a secure growth chamber yielding cannabinoid levels in mature plants as reported in Datwyler and Weiblen (2006).

In the Netherlands, the sale of cannabis seeds for growing plants that produce psychoactive substances is permitted.

The seeds are considered no different from any other seed,

 but

cultivation is limited to 5 seeds.

They're sold as souvenirs

Nevil operated an illegal seed bank openly during a hot drug war…. from 1984 thru 1989 in the Netherlands in spite of the evidence that shows he could not have. It was illegal to export seed without a license. Nevil was already a felon on the  run from selling drugs to a minor

According to the DEA they had been purchasing seeds from Nevil since 1985.

The the official investigation started in 1987.

It is lawful to import hemp seeds into the US. (Hemp is defined as the cannabis plant, and any part of the plant, with delta-9 THC concentrations that do not exceed 0.3%.)

However, because marijuana (any cannabis that is not hemp) is federally illegal,

It is unlawful to import non-hemp seeds in to the US.

The only exception to this rule is when the seed has been rendered non-viable prior to shipping.

 See? Seeds were never legal!!!!

“It is illegal to possess and to sell marijuana seeds, period,” Dawn Dearden, a spokesperson for the DEA tells The Daily Beast. “If you’re purchasing them from a foreign country, it is illegal to import them into the U.S.” she continues. But in a follow-up email about how, with this knowledge, the DEA allows websites that openly sell cannabis seeds to Americans to continue to operate, Dearden is tight-lipped. “I can't confirm or deny whether we have or had investigation into a company or person.” Without a press release, she says, there’s “nothing else to say.”

DEA allows websites that openly sell cannabis seeds to Americans to continue to operate,

AND WHAT WAS THE OUTCOME OF MR HAGAR AND HIGHTIMES  the…”counter culture” challenging “the man.”

 5. Steve Hagar: "Green Merchant was really the result of the politicization of the magazine,"

says Hager, who has been editor since 1986.”
