Wattage Per Plant

You could do it all under one, or you could do 9 plants under each 1,000 watter for a total of 5,000 watts. 3x3 configuration.

You could certainly do 7x7 with 5 gallon buckets.

I like to work with 3x3's and 4x4's to be able to reach the garden and work on it.

How many watts per plant would be optimal with HID?

I can do 48 plants now and think that 5-7000 watts are needed

It depends on the size of your room, try and get around 50 watts per sq ft. You will also want to supplement with CO2 with this many plants/watts. Just because you can grow 48 plants does not mean you need to flower them all. It is best to have a 3 stage grow unless you have a good reliable source for clones. Also, if your flowering 48 plants, your going to run into an issue with overages, as your only allowed 10 oz (4 patients x 2.5 oz ea) My plants average over 2oz per plant, with 48 plants in flower thats alot of overages ;)
