Are the new led lights just as good or better than hps mh lights? Looking to start up and electricity is an issue because electricity is not in my name.

However LED lacks in several areas, including lumens per watt, canopy light penetration, etc. The shortcomings combined with the fact that decent LED grow lights are a number of times more expensive really just not make it worth it, at least not to me.

 

A single MH or HPS light can be used for the entire grow, and if you are only using one light you will not see a significant increase in cost. A modern 600 Watt HPS with a digital ballast will result in $20-$30 a month increase in electricity. And to put things in perspective my PC has a 900 Watt Power Supply and my Microwave Oven is 1800 Watts. A 400 or 600 watt increase in power consumption can easily be explained by household electronics.
