Cbds & Thc Content

Recommended Posts

I was speaking with a grow shop owner recently, and he was telling me that a lot of the "boutique" breeders and seed banks have been breeding and growing for high THC content so much over the last ten years, that many of these newer strains have had a lot of the CDs bred out of them, in favor of a higher THC content. It is also my understanding that CBDs are one of the biggest factors in providing pain relief.

Can anyone speak to this? Are there strains that are known to have high levels of CBDs? Are there sites or reviews that generally speak to the level of CBDs in strains, as opposed to just the THC content (which many do)?

Generally speaking pure sativas are said to produce little to no CBD and mostly THC as far as those two particular cannabinoids are concerned. THC and CBD are structurally similar molecules and are synthesized through very similar pathways. Indicas and other strains particularly Ruderalis strains produce more CBD than Sativas. Indicas produce both CBD and THC with more THC than CBD and Ruderalis produce no (or extremely limited) THC and more CBD. This is just general speak -there is a great degree of variation within all of the different cultivars.

CBD and THC production in cannabis has been shown to have a generally inverse relationship. This is due to the fact that the same gene codes for both CBD and THC. Plants can either be homozygous for CBD or THC and produce one or the other, or they can be heterozygous and produce both THC and CBD in varying proportions. Some plants may or may not have a high degree of functionality in their particular gene alleles . While this seems like it would make CBD and THC production fairly straight forward in terms of genetics, one has to realize that gene regulation is often very complex and the mechanism by which the THC production pathway may be regulated is not necessarily the same as the CBD production pathway.

Yes some breeders do take note the CBD content of strains. Gas Chromatography and Mass Spec analysis can give the cannabinoid content of any sample if anyone decides to use those tools. Not all large breeders do it, it will probably become increasingly common in the future though.

Yes CBD's have been shown to be very useful in terms of providing pain relief to patients.

Yes, they definitely play a part in that couch lock feeling.

THC is generally associated with the high uplifting feeling.

The reason for this is that THC and CBD target different cannabinoid receptors.

THC targets CB1 receptors and CBD targets CB2 receptors.

Each receptor type may or may not be present in different cell types (i.e. nerve cells, brain cells, muscle cells, etc) thereby presenting the possibility of a different physiological response produced by each respective cannabinoid.

GW Pharm just received permission to market their product in England.

It is a combination of THC and CBD close to a 50/50 mix.

It was approved for use against the pain of MS.

They use two different strains of marijuana for source materials. They extract THC from one and then CBD from the second. Then they mix the two.

This is a whole plant extract product called Sativex.

All of cannaCopia's Deep Chunk cut ups have a very narcotic aspect and great pain relief. i stocked the Bubba Kush x Deep Chunk. Chocolate Chunk, and the G13 x Deep Chunk. And the best thing is theh only cost 35.00 for a 10 pack. Great gear. The DEEP CHUNK is an old Cali strain that has been re-worked by Tom Hill and stocked at hempdepot.com via CannaCopia. A lot of these over priced Exotic beans are all hype The Deep Chunks have been cut up to so many breeds it is not even funny due to its resin producing capacity.
