288,420 Legal Plants In Michigan

Recommended Posts

According to MDCH statistics there are 24,035 patients. Each patient is allowed 12 plants. 24,035x12=288,420

They are currently working on applications from April. Since they are receiving some where around 150 apps a day and they are behind around 110 days, there is around another 16,500 patients in the system or another 198,000 plants. Very rough numbers, but still pretty interesting. 288,420+198,000=486,420 legal plants. If those were all 12 week cycle plants harvested 4 times a year that would be 1,945,680 plants a year. And we are only in our second year.

If each plant yields around 1 oz that would be 121,605 pounds of medical marijuana a year.

Program Statistics:

* 49,602 original and renewal applications received since April 6, 2009.

* 24,035 patient registrations issued.

The least expensive method to supply medicine for a patient a caregiver must grow outside. That is only one single crop per year.

In order to provide, for themselves and five other patients, a one year supply:

If each patient uses one ounce per week, that would be 52 ounces per patient.

Fifty two ounces times 6 is 318 ounces.

318 ounces .. 19.5 pounds per harvest just to meet the needs of the patient.

Any other method of growing requires greatly elevated expenses.

Growing outdoors may allow the caregiver to charge such lower rates that even poor people can afford to be their patient.
