if you are planning on only vaporization as your means of consumption, is curing as important?

Absolutely! It will vaporize though the cure is essential. Kinda like the 'Icing on the Cake'.

 

 

 

Consider that the THC actually gets better too, depending on length of curing. You can also detect the change from 'raw' bud to cured bud as the taste seems to have a little turpentine taste in the beginning, early after harvest. Maybe even a little like licorice ...
