will they grow? sure....

but its really not the smartest thing to do. clear containers promote algae, root rot, hot roots, and about 25 other things.. especially when the plants are small and the light is close to the container.

 

by the time i cut them jugs in half, and then i put drain holes in the bottom....... and then say a real long prayer, i coulda just went dumpster diving behind the local greenhouse/florist/nursery....

 

or at least spent the $2 each at meijer for the fake "look alike terra cotta but they really plastic" pots.
