Tale Of Smok'in Joe

Recommended Posts

This is a poem that a group of us wrote back in the mid to late 80's, hope you will enjoy it and plaster it every where.

Tale of Smok'in Joe

Please take a moment to listen to a tale,

Of Smokin Joe, who was sentenced to jail.

He and pal Norton got busted one day.

The “War on Drugs” is the American way.

Snortin Norton had 20 grams of coke;

out after only 90 days, what a joke!

Quarter ounce of grass cost a year;

Out of Smokin Joes' life, ain't that queer?

Joe shared a cell with a guy named Chester,

a kinky king of guy a child molester.

He's in here for his second time;

boys under 12 are his favorite kind.

And Jimmy the “Hoffa”, who is B&E bright,

caught 4 times over, lock your doors tonight.

Jimmy plea-bargained his count down to 3.

HABITUAL?!? Don't be silly, not he!

Cells are loaded way past the max;

Guards are talking cots and matts.

That year the jail is an overcrowded jam;

early release is called for, who's the lucky man?

Jim gets his time cut, but not Joe this time;

pot smokers can't even get in the line!

Cell count is down, then up and over again.

And twice more before Joes year will end.

Pot smokers and druggies are required to stay,

But violent criminals can still get away.

Joe has sat there and seen it all;

Passive pot smokers they do not call.

He wonders when Jim and Chester will be back,

these kind of criminals are a revolving pack.

Sounds like a tale, but honest, it's true.

Which of these criminals do you want near you?

Snortin Norton, who'll do anything for a buck?

Chester the molester (wish our kids luck!)

Jimmy the thief who'd rob you blind?

Or smokin Joe? He's the passive kind.

You may think this tale is funny or cute,

but when it comes to freedom, I can not remain mute,

Our country was built on the Freedom of Choice,

You don't have to agree, one of our Freedoms is voice.

I'm not saying Joe can use pot for an excuse;

I'm just wondering who should be locked up, and who should be loose?

God Bless You All,

American Polli
