The Drug Enforcement Administration continues to prioritize secrecy over transparency, despite a congressional request for openness.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Attorney General Merrick Garland missed a Feb. 12 deadline to respond to 12 U.S. senators regarding the DEA’s cannabis rescheduling process, multiple congressional sources confirmed with Cannabis Business Times.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren took the lead on Jan. 29, joining forces with 11 fellow colleagues in the upper chamber to address a letter to DEA Administrator Anne Milgram and Department of Justice head, Garland.

The senators have written a letter to the DEA, urging them to go beyond rescheduling cannabis and completely remove it from the Controlled Substances Act. Additionally, they have requested that Milgram and Garland provide responses to six questions by Feb. 12 in order to inform the public about the steps being taken by the DEA in response to the rescheduling recommendation made by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Warren’s office confirmed on February 13th that the senator had not received a response from the DEA. Additionally, district staff from Senators and haters Cory Booker  and Alex Padilla and another signee’s office staff member, who spoke on background, also confirmed that their senators had not received a response.
