I'm wondering if anyone is planning on going to the Higher Ground event at eastern market next Friday? I would be cool way to meet some of you guys and help make the network stronger. Let me know if you are planning on it and maybe we could met up and get to know each other a little bit. I'll put a link to the information if you haven't heard about it yet. On Nov. 12, 2010, Metro Times and pro-pot activists will take over almost 30,000 square feet of Eastern Market’s Shed 3 to inform, educate and celebrate medical marijuana. Higher Ground: A Home Grown Event will feature a panel of experts, live music and dozens of medical marijuana, hemp and hydroponic businesses. The event will be free to attend, open to the public, and will be the first event of its kind in Michigan since the legalization of medical marijuana.

 

This event follows the success of the first annual Metro Times Pot Issue, which hit stands on Nov. 3. Metro Times expects Higher Ground to have a positive turnout and a very proactive panel discussion.

 

“Metro Times would like to bring a meaningful dialogue to a subject that is still under most people’s radar” Chris Sexson, Metro Times publisher, said. “We have assembled a panel of experts to bring a better insight to the fast-changing topic of medicinal marijuana. We are inviting the public to ask questions of our panel, visit with local shops and experts, and see what this movement is really all about.”

 

The Panel of experts will be moderated by Metro Times news editor Curt Guyette. The panel will feature the following:

 

* Tim Beck: Pro-marijuana activist who helped write the Michigan Medical Marijuana Law approved by Voters in 2008

* Charmie Gholson: Editor of the Midwest Cultivator magazine

* Dan Solano: President of the group Law Enforcement for Drug Law Reform

* Shelli Weisberg: Legislative director for the Michigan ACLU

* Saunteel Jenkins: Member of the Detroit City Council

 

Panel topics covered will range from culture to legality issues, from law enforcement to the politics of pot. The panel will look at the people involved, the activists, the patients, the entrepreneurs, the critics and more.

 

First I've heard of this, sounds fun though.
