FREMONT TWP, MI -- An investigation into a stolen Pennsylvanian vehicle led to police seizing more than 3 pounds of marijuana and numerous plants at a home about 8 miles south of Caro this week.

The affair began simple enough: a deputy from the Tuscola County Sheriff's Office was doing a routine liquor inspection Thursday afternoon, Oct. 12, at a business near Caro, said sheriff Glen Skrent.

Someone reported to the deputy that several people in the area were acting nervous and suspicious, and it was later found that the three of them were in a vehicle stolen from Pennsylvania, Skrent said.

One of the Pennsylvanians told police they were in Michigan because it was much easier to buy marijuana here than in their home state, the sheriff said.

An investigation led deputies and detectives to a home in Fremont Township, where Skrent said they found more than 3 pounds of illegally-grown marijuana and numerous plants.

Skrent said authorities in Pennsylvania did not want the three people held.

The investigation is ongoing. Once completed a report will be forwarded to the Tuscola County Sheriff's Office for review.
