______
Because it's worth it?
wingdings
There are upwards of 5 million drivers in MI (total guess) and around 20,000 mmc's (another guess). So maybe the smaller revenue stream has something to do with it. But I think the preceding post had it right... because its worth it
MiMedicalMJ
Taxes.... State revenue. Smokers spend MUCH more than $100 dollars a year in taxes. State had to earn something off this and they need to cover the added expense this has created.
TheSmartestManAlive
I dont know. I think the answer of " its worth it" isnt really an answer. I mean, when i signed up for a bridge card it didnt cost me any money, they gave me money on a monthly . When i signed up for emergency relief for my electric bill, it didnt cost me 100 dollars ( it cost nothing) to receive help on my bills. They just sent me a check for 900 dollars. When i got my license, it cost 15 dollars and it has my picture on it. When i got a state id, it cost me 15 dollars again and also had my picture. Now why do i have to pay 100 dollars ( more then anything ive had to pay for from the government, ever) because im a marijuana patient? they dont issue me ANYTHING, besides a plastic card and a big hassle from the LEO. Everything else is done on a private manner, with caregivers and patients. NO other government intervention , besides when they want to steal plants/ or equipment. So what exactly does my 100 dollars go to? Surely not to the actual card process, because it takes 4 months to get a 10 cent card in the mail. And who is already paying for that card, the shipping cost, workers cost, etc? US because its the MDCH and we have been paying taxes to allow them to exist since their creation . MiMedicalMJ
It costs a lot less than a lawyer back before you were able to get a card.... Kinda think of it as insurance... mizerman

MiMedicalMJ
Oh yeah, also drivers spend a TON more on taxes for their cars, repairs, gas etc etc so even though the license is $15 dollars you have to spend money daily to use it while you could grow with just seeds and soil really if you had to and thats free. peanutbutter
Why?? Because it doesn't matter what you are getting from them. What does matter is how much they can get from you. Our government needs money .. That's more important than whatever you might think you need. So they just figure out how to get more from you. If you actually expect value in return, you will become frustrated and angry. We are simply a cash crop for our government to harvest, from time to time. lightningstrike
Irishgreen
I personally think it's because they (Granholm et al) didn't want this law and wanted to make it as difficult as possible for people to want to register with it. They knew we were having economy problems and figured those figures(100.00 and 25.00) were high enough to be an issue for many people, (because they also knew most of us would have to pay a cannabis specialist) but not so high that it looks like they are trying to keep people from registering. Then if people were dissuaded from joining the program, they could say see...........the program isn't working. It's obvious by the few people they hired for the card issuing department, that they WAAAAYYYYY underestimated how many of us there would be. They wanted the program to fail. They STILL would like it to fail, but I think they are starting to see it won't fail. Just MHO UrbanFarmer
Kevin
A Benny for a card is better than $6 grand for an attorney. Best deal in town. B)
Irishgreen
Kinda stating the obvious huh Kevin? lol I think he was more wanting to know why there is such a big difference between the MM program and other programs you register for through the State. I mean, I think we all agree that the 100 is better that 6000. I know that is why I registered! TheSmartestManAlive

I mean, I think we all agree that the 100 is better that 6000. I know that is why I registered! Thank you Irish, that is exactly my point. Of course the card helps if it prevents you from getting arrested. But my point is, what other program charges 100 dolllars but still takes 4 months to receive a non-photo id. And then look at all the confusion and arrest because of the delay. We already pay taxes for the MDCH , we are the people who keep them running. I agree 100 percent with Irish that the point of 100 dollars is to try and prevent many people from getting a card. I know from reading stories here that many people struggled to come up with the 100 dollar fee.
