The Kelowna RCMP kicked off their CounterAttack road check campaign on Friday afternoon.

The Kelowna RCMP kicked off their CounterAttack road check campaign this afternoon with a show-and-tell session for members of the media at the corner of Leon and Pandosy.

These road checks will continue throughout the holidays at various locations around the city, as officers try to crack down on impaired driving, whether intoxicated by drinking or drugs.

“We do road checks throughout the day and night because impaired driving can happen at any time,” says Cst. Kris Clark of the Kelowna RCMP.

“We have seen recently, over the last couple of years increased incidents of drug impaired driving and we have a number of individuals here who are trained in detecting impairment by drugs and will be investigating those as well.”

Clark says the RCMP has a simple message for the holiday season: think of a safe way home and designate a sober driver.
