Suspicious Car In Chelsea Park Yields Marijuana-Related Arrest

Police arrested a Chelsea man for driving under influence of marijuana at Vet’s Park.


The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. May 30, near the corner of Sibley Road and North Main Street in Chelsea.

According to the Chelsea Police report, officers discovered a vehicle sitting in Vet’s Park with its daytime running lamps on. Due to the hour the officers pulled into the lot to begin to investigate. As the officers approached the vehicle a white male subject could be seen sitting in the driver side seat.

As the officers approached the vehicle they observed the driver making various movements, moving his hands as if he was trying to hide something. The officers requested that the driver roll down his window and when he did so a strong odor of marijuana was present and emanating from his vehicle. After a thorough investigation, the suspect a 19-year-old Chelsea man was placed under arrest for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of marijuana.

A search warrant was obtained to draw the suspect’s blood and he was transported to the Chelsea Hospital for the blood draw. The suspect was subsequently transported to the Washtenaw County Jail. The case remains open pending the blood results from the Michigan State Police crime lab and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutors Office.
