170Proof?

I have access to 170 proof alcohol and wondered if that would be a good solvent to make cannabis oil? Just wondering I have never made any before.

The question is whats in the other 15% of whatever you are using. If it is clear and odorless mostly (except for alcohol), then it is probably OK, but if it isn't clear, that could bring problems. For instance you can use 151 everclear, but not Bicardi 151 rum. The higher the alcohol content the better for your extraction.

 

Any dies or flavors may burn, causing a really bad smell or taste.

 

I use 99% Isopropyl, and it seems to work great. I know lots of people worry about the Isopropyl, and that you aren't supposed to ingest it, but done properly it should pretty much be completely gone.

Ok thanks my friend said it is 98% alcohol and absolutely clear.

I read you can freeze it and remove the ice to increase the proof.

I was wrong he said around 89% alcohol. It is made with multiple grains. Seems this would be safe to use a solvent for cannabis oil. I am sure if you can freeze to increase proof he will try it LOL

Clear is good. It will work, any alcohol will. Thing is you might have to wash it a little longer, to disolve the thc, which has the bad side effect of disolving more chorophyll. So might be a little darker in the end product.

ummmmm. freezing won't work. the temp needed to freeze water out of alcohol ain't happening at home kids. ever put vodka in the freezer? it gets cold but it don't freeze. and thats only 40%

This appears to be true. 190+ proof should work great anyway.

your right on the freezing never thought of that LOL Well maybe when I try and make some oil I will use some of it
