Are Drug Dogs No Longer Valid In Michigan?

To answer the question that the topic was started with; yes, they are still valid.  Unfortunately, marijuana remains illegal in Michigan, unlike Washington.  Comparing the two states is like comparing apples to oranges.

The odor of marijuana might or might not indicate a crime. Some would argue something about probable cause that a crime was, or was not, being committed.

But marijuana isn't OK for all people in all places.  When you walk past the cop stationed at the local high school and he smells MMJ in your pocket, you're screwed - card or not.  If you get stopped in traffic and your car reeks of MJ and you can't produce a card = same problem.  A cop doesn't need probable cause to call the K9 unit.

In other words, as long as there are even the most minimal restrictions on who can possess MJ and where, then there will be a use for drug dogs.
