Getting A Script

Recommended Posts

A couple questions hopefully someone can answer! I was wondering if anyone has gotten a script without having to fax or bring in medical records? I am prescribed 150 norco painkilers a month for a year now and wondering if prescription info would suffice? Me and my whole family go to the same doctor and all are very judgemental including doctor if I ask anything about med marijauna. Or do I just bite the bullet. Pills are very addictive and want to try a regimen of cannabis

By saying getting a script do you mean getting a recomendation?

The medical marihuana law mandates a doctor look over your file for the last months to see if your condition is one of those allowed to become a medical mariuhuana patient.

Ask your doctors receptionist for copies of the last three visits of chart notes. If they mention chronic pain you should be golden. It sounds to me like you may have acute pain about three months a year. this would not be a qualifier, but I'm no doctor. Send the notes in to one of the clinics and see what they say.

I had trouble getting a recamendation from my family doctor and he wouldn't give up chart notes that were good enough. So all I did is asked the physician if they tell what they are getting my records for and all of them said no, you could say what ever you want. Have the other doc that you are going to see pull your rec.

eddy, you don't have to tell your current doctor ANYTHING about WHY you want copies of your records.

But to make things a little smoother if asked tell them you want them for your OWN records... you just feel better having them around.

They can not refuse to give you copies of your records.

Ask them please to provide you with a 'release of information form' and fill in 'your name' for the person to whom the records are to be released.

They may charge you a fee to copy and mail them and you probably could go back in and pick them up after giving them time to get them together.

Be polite, be nice. That always seems to work best.

Peace.

See attached files.

FYI: I obtained by recommendation with only a script (bottle) for migranes from my family doctor and some news paper clipping from my accident 20 yrs ago.

Please read the attached file. I don't recommend notifying your family doc, because, they have to uphold hospital rules regarding drug addiction.

Hope this helps.

And Eddy, remember, these records are legally yours, not the doctors, so if he gives you a hard time about getting them, tell him that when you return you will have a patient advocate with you, that alone should get his butt in gear. If you need help, contact us.

Peace...j.b.

Just one more thing that may help you out....there are doctors who certify patients that will request your records for you and this would get you off the hook as far as you asking for them.

On another note I'm glad to see your concerned about taking to many pain meds, legal or otherwise. I can say from experience that even if you take them as prescribed you will get hooked on them. I took mine only as prescribed and the next thing you know I was hooked! I had to detox to get off my pain pills. I'm now pill free, just MM for me from now on. I can't even begin to tell you how sick I was for three days until I could start on soboxone. Had to be in full blown withdrawals just to take the meds that get you through the rest of the withdrawal symptoms.

Just ask the receptionist. They never asked me why I want them. And they shouldn't. I always get notes from specialist, for my own records. I found mistakes in my notes and had them fix it one time. I had the first doctors receptionist when I was still living in Vegas to fax them to this number(THCF)in MI and she did no question. They have to give you the notes. And when a doctor is talking with you at your appointment, make sure you say the words chronic pain(if you have it) when describing your condition. They will usually write it in the notes that way.
