Northern Lights...worth Running In The Garden?

Recommended Posts

Can anybody please tell me about the numbers?

I've heard them mentioned a lot and I hate to sound like an imbecile, but.....

I hear

Northern Lights #4, #2, #5

White Widow #5

etc.

I'm pretty sure it has to do with different breeders? genetic mixes? cross breeds? etc.....

Do certain #'s stand for certain strains? (ie. #5 = White Widow)

Therefore, Northern Lights #5

=

Northern Lights x White Widow?

I don't know....

Can somebody chime in here?

I found this:

"Northern Lights was first developed in the 1970s in Wolverine, Michigan, and since the initial hybridization has developed numerous sub-strains with varying qualities and features.[2] A notable sub-strain is Northern Lights #1, which was the original strain developed. It is composed of one quarter C. indica ssp. indica (from Thailand) and three quarters C. indica ssp. afghanica.[citation needed] It was considered remarkably potent at the time, but since then other more potent sub-strains have emerged. Northern Lights is considered to be among the easiest strains to grow, being quite hardy and forgiving to the novice indoor grower with a typical flowering time of 6–7 weeks, often described as growing like "weeds".[3][4] Northern Lights #5 in particular is renowned for this trait of growing very easily. The strain's reputation as a compact, high-yield plant, with a high potency also makes it popular among marijuana growers.[3] Along with Haze and Skunk #1, Northern Lights is among the most influential strains of all time; one of the first strains to be successfully hybridized for indoor cultivation. The Northern Lights #5 strain has been critically acclaimed by many cannabis enthusiasts and has been a winner in competitions such as the Cannabis Cup."

Not to intrude or offend, but Northern Lights is the one great claim Michigan has to fine genetics. Don't give the credit to washington! ;)

Some of the best girls in my garden are N.L. crosses...Detroit Purple Kush x N.L #5 is a head rocker. Finishes fat at 65-70 days indoors. The outdoor girls were some of the best Michigan outdoor I have ever tried...done by the the end of September, with fat drippy colas...

Northern Lights #5 x Haze is my all time favorite but

I love Northern Lights in general. Some of the better

versions around (in no particular order) are:

British Columbia Seed Company (BCSC): Northern Lights #5

Peak Seeds: Northern Lights #5

Dr. Atomic: Atomic Northern Lights

Joey Weed: Northern Lights

Highgrade Seeds: Northern Lights #5

Dutch Passion Seeds has "Oasis" which is Northern Lights #2

I havent heard anything good or bad about it but from what I

can find, they only sell femmed seeds of Oasis and I personally

won't touch femmed seeds.

If I was picking for my self, I'd probably go with:

1. Atomic Northern Lights

2. BCSC Northern Lights #5

3. Joey Weed Northern Lights (I've never tried Joey Weeds

version but I've had some of his other strains and they

were very nice.)

My dream strain would be Northern Lights #5 x HazeA (A5).

Unfortunately it can no longer be had since the original Haze A

is dead and The 2010 Mr. Nice NL5 x Haze is a new version. It's

probably great but I'd still love to get a cut of the A5. I'm

sure some people in the world are still growing A5 and hopefully

someday the herbal medicine gods will smile on Michigan and

get some clones circulating around our great state.

Good luck with your Northern Lights endeavors, you won't be disappointed.

I am currently growing NL5 X Haze from MNS and it has me so excited that

I almost cant stand it(lol)

When I found out where both lines came from,I knew I had to order some,

as well as he Mango Haze and Afghan Haze.

Yes I know the Haze A male is lost, but there's a new search on for the

next Haze, and I think they're getting close to finding it.

I have NL seeds back from 1998 I threw a couple in dirt and long and behold they popped!! I was amazed cause they are so old. I grew them back then and they were unbeleivably good. I also have an original OG Clone I received from a friend in Canada and this too is unbeleivable thinking on crossing it with the Mr. Nice and calling it "Oh God" but I still have to do alot of back crossing before I can do anything to make sure they're stable. Oh and the Apollo 13 they have out now? Is nothing compared to the old school Apollo13, that there was what they called the Bomb.:)

Guest knucklehead bob

If what I have is Northern Lights (what I was told) I don't know which one it is (1-?) . All popcorn buds .They are big enough buds but all fluff and no substance . Maybe with an "Official" Northern , I might have better luck .
