Morel Season

Well folks, got are first light rain of the season today. A few hours later I went out to the spot near my house, and sure enough, found five. Hoping for a big storm tonight!

What part of the state u pick? I'm a channeler guy myself good old Boyne falls.

just my local areas. My back yard buts up to pretty basic swamp land areas.

i can usually get atleast a gallon bucket from my back yard/woods area

I did 8 pounds in my back yard last year. That does not even account for my hot spots. Good picking and growing to you. I'll keep the picks coming.

Well went to my first spot and with in about 15 min had enough to put in my son and I's eggs. Fantastic!

Does anyone pick any other 'shrooms besides morels?

 

I'm an avid shroomer and pick most of the warm months. My Dad got me started by taking me on a chanterelle hunt. Now I pick quite a few varieties that I've learned over the years.

No good places in Otsego county....

 

Just look for ash trees and you'll find shrooms.

If we have a moist summer, you can come on up in mid to late August and I'll take you out to pick all you want.

Whatever happened to that northerner who used to post on here? I think he was an Ojibway Indian. Was a mod for a short time if I recall correctly. He was big into morels and used to find buckets every season.

One of my happiest moments was when a friend from high school let me tag along with his buddies who yearly camp on the Manistee River below tippy dam for opening week of trout season . Though some years are better then others they were generous in sharing their trout and morels as we sat in a campsite about 90 feet above the river on a bluff . I saw my first Michigan Eagle there . I hope allot of patients can get out and reap rewards shroom hunting . Seems ridiculous to me a qualified patient can't use their medicine in a Park area unless hidden from veiw in their tent . Then I am not sure if I understand that correctly it has become so confusing about what is right and wrong . I just try to keep a therapuetic dose in me at all times and it helps . I dose 4 times a day 2 grams ( very high not for everyone ) each session often filling in inbetween to comfort . I would prefer to use allot more oils and medables but thats not where my talents lie ,their hard to obtain , and you need $$$$ . I would never take oil now as it is in such short supply for the cancer patients but I enjoy sampling the med ables when I can get to a market . It would be such a shame for politics and fear to take them away .

Ottawa Danny. he's gone from here. That was another huge drama moment here at the MMMA. I'm not gonna kick the dead horse, but I REMEMBER!

I found several white and black morels in Kensington Park last spring along the nature trails. you don't HAVE to be up north to enjoy shroom hunting!!

BTW, that offer I made of going out shrooming is open to anyone. I'm still four hours from the bridge though. I live on the other of Lake Michigan than the rest of you Michiganders. I can actually walk to Wisconsin from my house.

No you certainly don't! I have friends in Illinois that were picking them a few weeks ago.

Go on camp ten rd. You'll see the cars parked all over get out and get moving. Lots of people go there and that's where I start my season. Good luck
