Inline Fan

I had to replace my 6 in inline fan. The old one I had always went right into the light nice and easy ,this new one will not go in like it should, I'm having a hell of a time getting it in, I bought the new one from Home Depot

Any ideas how to wiggle it in there

You can probably find a six inch Fernco fitting....basically a rubber boot with hose clamps on each end. Probably costs about $25. This will give you some flexibility with the diameter of the input and output shafts. My biggest complaints with blowers is that most don't have any more than a tiny lip to attaching piping to, which makes it tough to mate piping of slightly different diameters.

if the ends are both "male" or "female" you have to buy a female>female or male>male connector piece which will probably cost a few $$$ like highlander says.

 

otherwise you can macguyver it with some wood, rope, flexible plastic sheet (like one of those 99cent cutting boards), and some duct tape.

or um, depending on how weird it is. if you have a 7 inch hose clamp (its a metal band, with a screw, in a loop) then you could use that to continue tightening the clamp until the fan edge fits into the other hose. or that may break something, dont lose any fingers, dont take this as serious ducting advice, i am not a HVAC licensed person, just a macguyver wannabe.

Duct tape

^^^ rolls of the stretch wrap they use for moving accessories... Several wraps makes a pretty close to air tight seal and fits oddball connections. Piece of tape to keep it from unwrapping.

I had this same problem get some aluminum tape and a piece of flex ducting from the grow store tape it to the fan and slip the loose fitting ducting onto the hood simple fix.

My fan sits flush with the duct work. Duct tape and pressure have done the job well. The heat helps the tape really set in.
