Medical marijuana dispensaries in Gaylord are happy the city council will consider an amendment to the rules governing their businesses.

It won't change the way police enforce the state's medical marijuana law, but it would change how dispensaries are classified.

The City of Gaylord zoning committee moved an amendment forward to the city council.

It defines medical marijuana dispensaries and where they can be in the city.

9 & 10's Blayke Roznowski and photojournalist Erin Malone have more details on what exactly the amendment could change and what stays the same.

"It sets a precedent in the City of Gaylord," Cloud 45 co-owner Chad Morrow said. "It kind of accredidates that people want us here."

Medical marijuana dispensaries are celebrating what they say is a big step forward.

Last night the Gaylord zoning committee passed an amendment on to city council to define dispensaries and where they can go in the city.

"It's a definition in our list of definitions such as what a bank is, what a financial institution is, what a retail place and shop is and now, it's a marijuana provisioning center," City of Gaylord city manager Joe Duff said.

Dispensaries like Cloud 45 says the amendment helps fill in the grey areas of the Michigan Medical Marijuana Act and proves the community wants them in Gaylord.

"We're abiding by the law," Cloud 45 co-owner Alan Witt said. "There's structure here, the community accepts it and they want us here. They've spoken."

Michigan State Police say, if the amendment passes, it will not change how they enforce the law.

"It doesn't change anything, just more of a technicality for the city on their ordinances, but as far a state law, it doesn't change anything how we do business with medical marijuana," Michigan State Police Gaylord Post Sgt. Mark Tamlyn said.

The city council will move forward in a few weeks to decide if the amendment should be part of the zoning ordinance.

So much for the rule of law. The police in this country have definitely gone rogue.

In Colorado when the law changed the sheriff brought in a judge and made all the cops swear a new oath to uphold Federal rather than state law.

"We don't care what the law says, we're going to do what we want."
