OMG!!! I wish I had that problem!

yeah no kidding.......... it NEVER HAPPENS when i buy a pack from the store :)

Man....I should play the lotto.....

I dug my hand in that jar and pulled all females out for ya, eh?

:thumbsu:

Let's see how mine fair....

Did you take clones to sex or did ya sex the whole plants?

yeah no joke. 7 of the originals germed and looked strong from the jump so i grew those 7 out.

i made a rookie mistake and didnt pay as much attention as i should have..... the 400w MH that they were under had surpassed its life span as far as my standards go.

one thing you will find about these buckets is obviously the plants wanna grow fast, but you gotta have the light to offset that and beat them down :)

so the light was weaker than i would have liked (it's replaced now, but its too late) so i ended up tossing the 2 lankiest of the bunch instead of hacking a foot off the top and moving forward.

so now i'm down to 5......

they were all 28-32" tall and i couldnt hold off much longer so i just threw them all in flower to sex them.

i had every intention of cloning all the females and the best male and running the whole thing over again with better light and more attention...... but all i got was 5 females :)

they are gonna be producers.... no doubt..... after a week under the 1k hps they really stiffened right up like a double shot of viagra. definitely gonna be some big top buds .......... at least the trunks are there to hold up some big azz nuggets.

but im looking forward to running them again and topping a bit earlier and really bushing them out.............. under more intense light this time

and we all wanted some seeds too :) but i can't do that without a male?? heehee. hold on to a few for me..... i'll have a nice pack ready to trade in a few days.

i have all 5 females cloned.

news flash......... sometimes it pays to be over medicated and over worked.

i went to move some blubonic from veg to flower this morning and i found a mistake :)

when tossing those l.c. lanky couple, i also tossed a couple lanky blubonic that were growing in the same area.

well, i messed up i guess....... i found another l.c. mixed in with about 15 bonics :)

it's all on you little one..... you better grow balls!

keeping a close eye on this one. it has "the look". she has really bulked up at the nodes and the branches are getting real thick. she is laying down the infrastructure to really pack on some serious weight is what my experience tells me.

BC BigBud from seed. vegged 3 weeks.... now 16 days in flower and 40" tall:

Hey Bubblegrower,

I have been a lurker for some time and have enjoyed your posts and threads. I am ready to de-cloak now and wish to ask a question.

I have some new plants growing (my first grow). They are at about 10 nodes and I can see pre-flowers above the 8th node. I had planned on sexing my plants by taking a clone and putting it into 12/12. Now I think I can save that step because I can tell the sex by the pre-flower. I have 2 females and 1 male so far. 3 others are about to show.

Is using pre-flower a reliable way to sex plants? Do all strains pre-flower? Thanks for any thoughts!

hi there!

welcome out of the shadows and into the light :)

great question.

congrats on your first grow.

the simple answer is yes..... if you veg your plants long enough they will eventually show sex without the introduction of 12/12 lighting...........

BUT..... there are always exceptions to the rule. i never rely 100% on the pre-sex thing because there are still the possibility of hermaphrodite plants. and some plants have to be vegged for a LONG time before they show sign of pre-sexing.

also, as some of these more complex strains are bred, the initial formation of male parts can be a bit tricky to define.

i subscribe to the "better safe than sorry" attitude and put all my plants through a week of 12/12 regardless of initial findings.

So, I could take a clone, root it, put it in 12/12 for 1 week to see the sex, then put it back in veg? That seems better than the way I had researched. "They" said, you take a clone, root it, put it in 12/12 and let it tell you the sex. Then you throw out the very small flowering clone because it would never grow properly. They also had you take multiple clones, so you could grow the ones who's sister turned out female. That doesn't work well for MI caregivers tho... I can't go over 12 right now...

correct.... i think :)

due to our limited plant count, it is bad enough when you have to waste a spot on a male plant..... let alone the male AND a clone of him as well :(

yes, in larger grows, or when people are getting plants ready for transplant outdoors they will use the method you described. grow them out from seed and as soon as they are big enough to take clones from, do so...... while continuing to grow the original plants as normal. after the clones root, you can flip the lights to 12/12 right away and within a week or so you will have the sex determined. at this time you can pull the male clones, and the corresponding plant that it came off of...... putting the female clones back into the vegetative state can stress them into growing male parts though.

but i prefer to just do things on a more normal basis and grow them out to flowering height and then switch to 12/12 and then pull males.

Sounds correct. The strain I am growing is really easy to see the pre-flowers, so I will try to use that for sexing, but will still keep a close watch for males/hermies. Once I identify my mothers, I won't have to pull males (I hope).

Since this is my first grow, I am growing from seeds. I have Hash Bomb from the Netherlands.

My plan is to grow up to 6 females and take clones from each (keeping track of what clone matches what potential mother). Then I will grow out the clones, cure and test. The best 2 become my mother plants.

After that, I will go into a cycle of 3 plants in clone, 3 plants in veg & 3 plants in flower, with a harvest about every 2 months. I have room for my 2 mother plants and one spot in case someone gives me a tasty clone to grow out. :-)

I am loving being my own caregiver. I can't wait to start my 2 month cycle. I have built my clone machine, and will take clones in the next week or two. After they root, I plan on going right into 5 gal buckets, fitted with a net insert, filled with hydroton. I am about to build my Ebb & Flow Controllers. I am using Lucas Formula. My veg light is 400W MH. My flower room will be 1000W HPS mounted vertically in a cool tube. After everything is dialed in, I will add CO2 to the flower room. Such fun!

I get to put up my veggie room today :)

A 400MH in it :) , should be very very nice :).. I think I will notice an immediate difference :) I don't know how to to electric so I'm stuck having to wait on family so that they can add in another 20amp breaker so that I can add in the second 600 in my flower room :) trying to grow like u one day my friend :) lol

But those blubonic look nice bro :jig:

I'm still debating adding my t5 in the eg room or to just keep it in tent...

i have a couple different areas and this tent that are running about identical and im liking it.

4 x 4 space. 400wMH air cooled w/ 200cfm inline. and then a 200w T5 and a small warm-air humidifier. this gives me the perfect amount of heat. stays right about 80-85° and about 80-85% humidity.

600 watts total.... 12 plants to flower height per space.

working well for now. once the weather warms up it probably wont be so fine though :)
