imiubu
There are several Music threads and I love them all, even rockinlespaul... hey, guitars and bud are music, Right!? < Anyway, I thought it might be fun having a music thread just for the Women who's music has influenced us through the years/present. Maybe a comment about them when you post? Got a story that goes with the music? Wanna a tell? This is the "Let's get personal" forum so, let's get personal and have some fun w/ this. I'd like to see the this Music thread kick butt Sister's are doing it... let's show them some love! I tend to have always liked the "B side" so to speak so some of my choices may not be "mainstream" lol. I'm sure we all have some of those... let's hear 'em! I fell in love w/ Ruby when I saw her doing back up with BOA. This is audio only. YT has a live version w/ Blackfoot. Love ya Janis but... Ruby rules This lovely Lady became a staple of Saturday nights in our home when I was a youngster. This is my favorite version of this one... (yeah, right Whitney... whatever...) Dolly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OGceCzW9DQ Ha, the story of how I came to hear this lady's music is definitely from another time & for a different place This is a bit long but worth it, jmho. 1337Gr33n
I was and continue to be influenced BIG TIME by Ani DiFranco. She is just such a dang Renaissance Woman! i got in to her a bit late. but when i did, she was profoundly influential for me musically and personally. Musically, her percussive style and inventive tunings has me tinkering endlessly. Personally, i got in to her about a year before the demise of my first marriage. She gave me faith in women again when i had lost hope. Also, my forever wife got us tickets to see Ani in an outdoor concert for my birthday a few years back. Thanks Ani! Great thread, imiubu! http://www.ifc.com/videos/performance-ani-difranco.php Edited January 1, 2011 by 1337Gr33n

rockinlespaul
Great thread imiubu!!! I almost prefer a woman vocalist over a man. My tastes are very wide so I like a lot of stuff. Of course Janis Joplin! But I love several women singers...Pat Benatar, Alanis Morisette, Natalie Merchant, the chick from the Sundays....LOVE her voice. Mazzy Star, Sheryl Crow, Joss Stone, I could go on and on.... I think my absolute favorite female vocalist is probably Karen Carpenter. She had the voice of an angel.
