My Landlord Busted Me

Darkmatter

Recommended Posts

This week has been very stressful. My landlord calls me the other day to tell me they will be replacing all the pipes in the house. So all I could think of to do was to tear down the entire grow... 2 rooms...5400 watts...with 200 gallons of hydroponics. I am a pain patient on disability...this was hell.

I broke down the entire grow, the only thing I left was the 4 220v lines , and the relay box, but I covered them with a tarp. I moved all the plants into the garage(which was locked)

The plumbers saw the 220v lines, and knew right away that I was a grower, and ratted me out. They had hooked up other peoples grows before so the knew what they were looking at. They also told him that my 220 lines were unsafe, which is TOTAL BS. I had 2 licensed electricians install and inspect it. They are now refusing to finish the job.

My landlord confronted me about it saying that he was worried about insurance. He said that if anything happened that he would not be covered....Then he shows me HIS MMJ CARD and says to me..."Ok lets see if you have any skills. Roll one up!"....I was still a little nervous but I figured it was in my best interest to indulge him. After smoking half of a joint he told me that my meds were very good, and that I could go back to work, that I would not be disturbed again....HOLY FING SHEET DUDE!!!

So, writhing in pain I am now rebuilding my garden, but I am still waiting for the bomb to blow up. My patients are now without meds because this whole fiasco took 2 weeks, and they are still not done. So here I am...stressed out, in pain, broke, and without meds. I am certain I will be ok, but if you had asked me that a week ago I would not have been so sure.

Anyways I just needed to vent, thanks for listening.

Crazy sheet for sure. Lucky for me my landlord is a good one, he also likes my girlfriend and I. We always pay our rent on time, and have treated this house well. We really enjoy living here. The neighbors and I even get along well. I just hope that he does not change his mind about renting to us in the future, this would be a very very bad time to move.

I apologized for not being honest with him about the grow, and I think I am going to give him a nice gift. Once I harvest.

BTW, I appreciate the generous offers made in PMs, but I will be ok. I have my hash oil, and some hash pile buds to get me by until I harvest the next plant, which will be in a week or so. This post was not really a cry for help. More of a venting tool. :startle:

What an awesome community though! Not even a few hours into posting this, and folks are already offering help. You guys rock! :bighug:

I feel for ya, bro....

but ya handled it the best way you could....

That is unmitigated, irresponsible crap. BS.  If you own a house you can act as you wish.  You got better than you deserve, and what you deserve is eviction.  A standard lease calls for tenants to notify--and get LL permission to do structural, wiring, plumbing changes.  You are inconsiderate, and lucky.

Damage that growers do to other's property is expensive and not covered by the usual deposit.  I no longer own and manage dozens of houses.  Now,  I myself rent.  But it's still true.  Over 10 years, costs to prepare to re-rent after a grower moves out run about 5 times more than for an average tenant.  The extra costs range from putting things back, pulling  permits for unpermitted changes, pulling moldly sheetrock, and reconfiguring rooms to once again being habitable.  Worst I ever had was carpets gone, walls gone, chicken wire and hooks as ceilings and partition walls, furnace removed and 7 tons AC installed in its place:  conttractor's bill $24,500, and 7 weeks down.

I've said it before on this board, be a stand-up guy.  You'll love yourself more for being different than the average dirty sneakeroo, hydro or soil.

You need to quit throwing stones. Who the hell are you to judge me? My whole life, since the age of 20 has been spent helping people, I have made great sacrifices to do so. I am a stand up guy...just ask around. Can YOU say the same?

How dare you insult my character when you know nothing of me.

1st off. I have done NO damage whatsoever to this place, other than pulling down a few ceiling tiles that where already hanging down. I had professionals do this with specific instructions to make what I have done COMPLETELY removable. My exhaust is STRONG, humidity is always under 35%. You will never see mold or mildew in my garden, though I am sure yours runs rampant with it. (Your meds have a reputation for being garbage....just ask around)

So my family and I deserve to be tossed out in the street in hard times? You sir, are the inconsiderate one.

Why don't you go back to peeing on your plants and leave the real work to people without mushrooms for brains?

Ask yourself before you post. "Would I say this to him in person?" You know that we do sometimes attend the same social functions....Think before you act.

I recall from junior high school that private property rights in the Western world spring from John aquiescing to the nobles (Magna Carta 1215) and not from Lenin, who disliked maintaining them and in fact, found them harmful to society, and man did he do something to 'fix' the right to private property (Russian--Bolshevik--Revolution, 1918).  The fact is, using private property temporarily in your charge only in accord with the owner's stated wishes (standard lease) is just part of maintaining a system of governance that is based upon rights to own and treat private property.  And, of course, there's Michigan codes, based on private property rights.  That's where the landlord's say gets its basis in law.

Always remember,.. 2 out of three voting adults in Michigan voted for this law. :-)

So, basically, 2 of every three people you meet(or more) have no issues with medical cannabis.

And even of that "other third", many of them didn't really want the law, but do not really care anymore. :-)

So, in this case in todays world, there is way more likely a chance your landlord will be "accepting" than non accepting. As in, it would be more surprising if he reacted harshly!

:-)

"Ahh yes,... the smell of change in the air."

I was straight up with the real estate company that was renting this house out ,I even told the caretaker of the houses, what I was doing ,he was really cool.

I was nervous when two older gentleman had to go in my basement to turn off the main water line ,I'm sure they knew by the ballast on the outside wall of my room.,they seemed to not like it ,they were kinda rude.

I'm hoping to rent from an Atty who is also a patient.

darkmatter,

i think you may have avoided all this.  of course hindsight is 20/20.

if you were legal and could pass a law enforcement inspection, and you had not signed something in the lease saying you would not grow then you may have found that letting the cat out of the bag from the beginning would have saved you a lot of problems.

first,  if you were completely legal, the worst thing the landlord could have done was evict you.  this is not an overnight process.  he would have had to get an eviction notice and post it.  you would then have 30 to 60 days to appeal.  and then you would likely get at least 30 days additional unless you were engaged in illegal or unsafe activity.

second, you say busted, so it makes a good story, but logically you were not busted you were discovered.   and by your own admission you might have done more to hid the breakers for the ights.  and perhaps no one would have been the wiser.

and last, your actions and reactions are understandable in this day and age.  and some cities have restrictions and/or inspections required to grow.  but you could have found this out as well.

dude, i think you need to step into the new world of medical marijuana.  it is legal you have rights and you might be surprised how often being straight up is looked upon favorable while hiding and sneaking are suspicious.

BBN: how's your K.I.S.S grow going?  It's been 2 months.

And Dark:  You are right, I could grow better meds.  My greater attention to air flow and humidity will make for progress.  Piney put my thots more nimbly and less offensively but I don't know how to quote him here.  Thank you Piney.  I believe in up front.  You tell me my meds suck, I try harder.  I ask you state upfront your intent to grow, to rewire my electric, and if I say no, move on to the next landlord.  Why?  Yes, because of truth and not sneaking around but that's piddle--because of the right to private property.  Non-mj situation.  Guy's gonna rent my 5-plex to bring in hotty teen female illegals and breed them and harvest their babies and sell them?  I don't want that on my property and I have the right to say no, and not discover it when INS barges.  I will say that to anyone.  Now the kicker is that some landlords said yes and helped with the breeding part.  Moral of the story?  Ask enuf folks and one will help you out.

How about a picture of you standing there with his finger in your hand, excitedly exclaiming do you know what this means? "My future as a real estate manager is safe!"   Hope  it's not going to do for you what it did for him.

Me thinks you have Mr Lenin mixed up with someone else too.   "As the leader of the Bolshevik faction of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party, he took a senior role in orchestrating the October Revolution in 1917, which led to the overthrow of the Russian Provisional Government and the establishment of the Russian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic, the world's first constitutionally socialist state."

***Don't Mind if I correct myself, ?! misinformation is unfortunate, correcting it is sublime...

He also managed to keep Russia out of WWI even though it was he who triggered pretty much the entire event by assasinating the last Russian Tzar Nickolas-II and his family.

***Is Not 100%, maybe 50% True this did manage to keep them  out of WWI.  However, what triggered WWI seemed to be the assasination of another Monarch: Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand in 1914  .

***Upon further research, I've  learned that the same group the Black Hand was also responsible for an aerlier assasination in xx may 28, 1903 Wher the victim was King Alexander and his wife Queen Draga
