Don’T Block Detroit Access To Medical Pot

I agree that switching to outdoor grows would have several positive environmental effects, as would switching to hemp for other purposes. Here’s several examples of the problems I mentioned; indoor grows are already having a large impact on the power grid and we are nowhere near the end of recreational/medical MJ growth. Imagine what would happen if it was legal in every state to grow indoors… it just wouldn’t work.

There are several things I see happening from now to 10 years out.

First, marijuana is highly profitable so any additional costs won’t stop indoor growers and will be pushed off to customers. Thus if electrical demand is hitting it’s limits, other businesses and residential areas will have to pay for it. What I mean by this is that the price for electricity will increase due to demand, the growers will be able to afford it, while other businesses and residential will have to decrease their usage (while paying the same or more).

Second, 10 years from now it will be ~1F hotter on average; this will do two things: (I) it will push more nights over the limit required for people to turn on their A/Cs and (II) it will decrease the average efficiency of A/C units (5%-10% more electricity). These both mean that residential/commercial electrical use will be increasing over time, not decreasing. Finally, the additional use of A/C units will further increase local temperatures by an additional 1-2F, requiring another 5%-10% loss in efficiency.

So what we are looking at is a 10%-20% increase in energy usage due to climate change alone (A/C usage) over the next 10 years, combined with the aggressive demand of indoor marijuana grows. Even in Michigan we are seeing an increase in grows without additional laws being passed; ~20% increase in caregivers over the last 4 years. It does appear that the states having the most problems also have recreational use however.

As a side note, it looks like my dispensary is shutting down so the fight against Detroit is likely not working. They are having some type of sale to get rid of product and removed themselves from leafly in the last few days.

If marijuana is legalized it won't be long before other countries get into the game. I can hardly wait until it is possible to order a pound of the world's finest and have it delivered to my front door wrapped in a red ribbon with a bow.

Am I dreaming?

yea your dreaming!

But im dreaming right with ya :bong2:  :drinking-coffee:

Peace
