Which internet browser do you use? FIREFOX is like all the rage, and they are open source with neat add ons that will block all adverts on websites and yootoob vids.

Do you have an anti-virus software? Kaspersky and AVG are sweet, NORTON IS BAD, MCAFFEE IS MCCRAPPY.

How often do you run updates for your operating system? The stuxnet virus is super EVIL and can really wreck your stuff, plus like 60,000 new viruses are created EVERYDAY... windows firewall and anti-virus update are needed.

Does the virus effect any other programs while NOT on the net? Flash player based games a little funky?

I wish you the best in finding someone closer to you.

try this... create a new user profile by clicking start>control panel>user accounts... then log off and log on to the new profile. If everything is better, then transfer your files to the new profile. Go back to user accounts and delete the old account. This will solve most hijacks, and even the "anti-virus" virus. If you don't know how. I can make a house call. But it would cost about twenty in gas from my house to you. plus donation for the house call.

sounds like you dont use your computer for much... i would suggest browsing from puppy linux its a small program that is its own os and it can fit on a thumb drive and be run from one but virtually a virus free way to use computer do a lil research on it.. i wouldnt suggest buying anything from best buy... ur better off paying that money/compensation to someone to just put another os on ur pc and a good anti virus/firewall software..like comodo.. anyone that uses torrents and pirate stuff can help u... i dont know enough to start u anew dont buy anything software is free in this day and age

On the contrary... I repair computers. I use them constantly. I use a combination of anti-virus programs and firewalls. I have yet to find any AV software that can fix the "anti-virus" virus. And not even "hijack this" can repair the hijack she speaks of. But the simple suggestion I have made does indeed work for both of the aforementioned problems. It is such a simple fix, it seems implausible. But try it first... I use boot disks (cd) and key drives as well. I am not saying there aren't other ways to do things. But I have spent countless hours trying to fix these problems. I have been doing this a long time... I have tried the following Av programs, none helped... kaspersky, symantec, Mcafee, Panda, AVG, avira, spysweep, spybot...etc. All scanned and cleaned but did not fix these problems... I backed up burnt down and reinstalled many disks, before I stumbled onto this trick.

Hi Glaucoma1,

I work on computers and networks for a living at a local community college and have been doing that for many years. If none of the suggestions the folks are giving you work....and there are some good ones.... and you still need help or house call, send me a pm and as long as you are not too far away from the north side of Grand Rapids/Rockford area. I will make a house call and check out your PC for free. If we have to purchase anything to fix it I will let you know before we get involved with it!!!!

Peace,

Wildman

sometimes the best thing is wipe it clean and start fresh. installing Windows 7 cleans EVERYTHING and places ALL your old files in a file called windows.old... easy enough to restore pictures, music, documents etc. just drag and drop. also, there ARE ways to get win7 for free online. authenticated and clean. but thats stealing and I'm not posting the "how to" here

I use AVG and SpyBot search and Destroy.

<--- Gamer here, Spybot is your friend. It doesn't let anything mess with the registry unless you want to. A fresh install is always nice for a computer especially if it's an older computer. I always refer to installing computer programs as stacking books on the floor eventually they fall so wiping the computer is alway nice. If all else fails I can help. Dell drivers can be a pain if it's a dated computer. Hard drives are cheap if you do a fresh install on a new one you'll keep your pic's on the old one with access plus you'll have a spot to put all your important info.

One other thing have you tried to do a system restore?

Sincerely appreciate all the tips and tricks.

I cant even get to the sites for the " FIXES " without seeing " IE cannot find page "

Heck it takes 2-3 times of reloading to get this site up sometimes.

I play Battlefield 2 online I am "BongBomber" there hehehe other than that game I mostly just surf.

I AM DONE TRYING TO FIX THIS MYSELF. IF YOU CANT COME WIPE IT AND RE-INSTAL for some good meds I do not need any more " tips " . Agian I REALLY appreciate everyone trying to help though.

THANK YOU

I would be more than happy to help, I have XP Vista And W7 discs ready to go. I also have backup drives. Problem is... I do not have gas to come there.... I am disabled and waiting on SSI, I have no income. Just trying to help the easiest way I know how. It only takes a minute to create a new user profile... it might fix it

I would be happy to help and we don't have to wipe anything clean. First download combofix from Bleepingcomputers. combofix download page Do not download combofix from any other web site. It is free software and some companies are charging for it. The reason we run combofix first is to remove any root kits. Some of the other AV software mentioned is good but if the root kit is hiding the main downloader for the virus you will never get rid of it.

Run combofix and say yes to all the questions. It will ask you to shut down your AV if you have one running. I never do and have never had a problem. Now there may be times when combofix does not look like it is doing anything. Just step away from the computer. If after a couple if hours it is not done then you may have a problem but do not stop it in the middle if the fix if you can help it. Combofix may reboot and run again. Just let it go.

Once complete then download malwarebytes. At the end of the installation make sure it is checked to do an update. Run a complete scan after the update. This will take a while. When done reboot and run malwarebytes again. If it is clean the second time through you are good to go.
