I vote Fact. Or as the mythbusters would probably say "Plausible"

I'd have to agree with Inepsa, if only because it's plausible. Why take the chance? I know the grief of having a hermie, and it was a beautiful big plant. HeShe went into the burn barrel early last winter after almost three months of good lovin'. Don't take a chance, JimD, especially with unstable seeds. One easy way to check is to stand outside your room, at night in the dark, with the lights on inside and the door closed. If you can see light coming out, there's a good chance that light will be getting in. BG has a post somewhere demonstrating a simple way to seal up a room. It's really worth it. If you do get a herm, it eliminates one possible stressor.

Well, hehehe, I wasn't saying I would be lax. I was repeating a debate I have found on a lot of grow sites.

I think it is a sliding scale of risk based on amount of light and the spectrum of the light. For instance, a big dose of moonlight is unlikely to cause them...but a warmer, constant dose, say a 60w soft white, would be bad.

I have a space heater in my bloom room (which has been operating now for all of 3 weeks). I went in there under the cover of darkness just to see how light tight the space was. The heater has 3 friggin lights on it! So glad I wandered in there. Black gaff tape to the rescue.

If I sounded like I was implying anything, I apologize. Just sharing my thoughts. The market seems to want sensi, which is easy enough to achieve with good stock and a controlled grow. It is an interesting debate, and I know that some growers adjust their flower lighting schedule to effect different results in yield. I'm not at that point yet... maybe one day.

Fact or fiction:

Light leaking into your flowering space during the dark period will stress a plant into be a hermaphrodite.

it "can" stress a plant enough to produce male flowers ............. thus pollinating itself and everything around it.

is it guaranteed every time? nope.

is there an amount of time/days that you can mess up the light schedule and make this happen? yup, but its different for every strain. so you never really know.

but i can almost promise you that if you mess up your 12/12 too much for too long, you WILL end up seeded.

since you are dealing with single 10gal totes that are not linked together, and you have 2 plants per tote ..... you are obviously going to be drinking a ton very quickly.

what i would do if i were you ........ and they are drinking 2 gallons/day (which is 1/3 of the rez) ........ is full strength nutes/fresh water one day .... then backfill with 2 gallons of just ph proper water the next day, then dump/refil/start new on the 3rd day.

i am so used to growing with a bunch of buckets/totes linked together that i kinda forget that it can be a pia sometimes with 2 plants per 6 gallons.

Ok, after a bit of thought, I figured I would ask why?

Why does the accelerated water usage make it so that it would be better to simply refill than to continue back-filling with the calculated nute formula?

It occurred to me that I should understand why I'm doing what I'm doing. You know, for my brain.

You ever have one of those moments when the big eraser comes through, and you completely forget what was on your mind? Well, Mayor, I can blame this one on you. Had my first sampling of the widder this evening. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... :P Now I have to try to remember what I was thinking.:))

Thanks BG. The plants want more space, and more light at the same time. I've got the space. I think I'll be trying the rail soon.

as long as your not using the light movers to expand the footprint of your lights THEY ROCK!! I like the lights to only move 2 to 3 feet max. It fills the colas out nicely by not having a fixed point of light AND I'm able to keep the lights 4-6 inches above the plants. LOTS of light gets way down into the plants. I hardly have any poodle scraps for hash oil!

I like that plan! Thanks, LongHairBri!:thumbsu: I'm looking at the five footer. I've been thinking (Oh no! there I go again...) that I can put them into stretch under the 600W, and then move them under the 1000W till baked. I could give them a little more space, and cover the same area. The 600W stationary over a 4X3 space, and the 1000W moving over a 4X5 space. That keeps me in my 4X8 room. Can I hang more than one light from one rail?

I use and LOVE the LiteRail3.5 standard is 8' rail and mover motor. I like the "robo stick" add on too. its a stablizer bar that secures to the motor. easier to balance and two point hookup for hood. they also sell a "trolly" that allows you to use two lights. comes w/a threaded rod to hook to motor and connect trolly, again I get the robo stick there too. when you get the trolly, their is an additional rail option making 16' travel possible. I use 12' rail. lights 6' apart. 3'travel each way.

let me see if I can get a picture of my setup

EDIT: add pic's

This is about 2 weeks later, around 16 inches. The light actually fell on her the next morning :growl: but nothing broke and the light literally topped her...

So, the room is still a work in progress but its getting there. Im feeling a Lot more confident in My growing abilities. Ive got my pre 98 from cutty, Sour ak, Diesel and Super Lemon Haze "seedling" about 4" to follow right behind her. Nothing big right now as this is a personal grow for myself.

Not sure how long she runs ( 69 days ? ) but only time will tell :hot:

What are the differences between Pineapple Express and Pineapple Chunk? Growing, cultivating, curing, tasting, effectiveness, etc? Anyone had both? I have had the Express but not the Chunk.pineapplechunksL.jpgIMG_8449.jpgpineapples.jpgpineapple-1.jpg
