is it weird that the churches are against dispensaries?

can someone explain to me why the churches hate marijuana?

Not all churches are against medical marijuana.

These are churches who do support medical marijuana:

The Episcopal Church • The Presbyterian Church USA • The United Church of Christ • The United Methodist Church's Board of Church and Society • The Union of Reform Judaism • The Unitarian Universalist Association

It may be worth getting to church this Sunday.

my guess is 10 or less.

but how will detroit enforce an ordinance that goes against the mmma?

Must b kidding... 10? The d is huge, and the new regs will open areas that most were afraid to open for fear of reprisal. Multiple dozens, if not over a hundred... That would be the over under in vegas... 100.5

Several will have to close, but they werent thinking in the first place w locations... Should'v anticipated the schools and churches. And those on top of each other, well, chit happens, it was always a calculated gamble.

i was kidding actually. i'm thinking more like only 2 stores will survive, assuming they really go hardcore at shutting the shops down.

you cant go 100 feet without hitting another day care or church in detroit.

heres a question for the smart people in the room... how many day cares and how many churches in detroit?

no one knows.

has the FBI stopped looking at the head narco gang in detroit (aka the dpd) ?

dpd might be on notice not to be stealin/dealin at the moment.

wayne co sherrifs usually operate with more gusto however.

didnt pic book say something like 5 years until the crackdown occurs ?

Here is the report.....

The number of dispensaries are increasing faster than the folks that drew the map could keep up with.  I know in our area they show 11, but there are 15 as of this past weekend.

The potential financial benefits that come with

regulating these businesses must be balanced against the

sociological consequences of their trade, especially in such

close proximity to schools.

what are the sociological consequences of being near a school?

no, really, where did the 1000 ft thing come from and why is it a thing? did marijuana kill a student? no?

just more prohibitionists using any excuse they can (in this case, children) to ban marijuana without due reason or logic.

I seen a flyer today that said plants under 12 inches tall do not count toward your plant count that sounds kind of sketchy to me. anyone confirm that

hey , you didnt get the flyer at a park did you? :P

plants under 12 inches wont count in your plant count if milegalize passes. i guess its so people can pass out clones to consenting adults 21+ and OGG? a real quick starting legalization process if everyone has 12 clones instantly.

did you see it in milegalize flyer? if not, can you take a picture of the flyer?

heres the part in milegalize petition language:

(b) Cultivating, growing, harvesting,

possessing, propagating, processing, or

transporting 12 or fewer marihuana plants,

each of which is at least 12 inches high or

12 inches in diameter, and possessing the

marihuana derived from those plants. The

plants must be grown in a manner so as to

reasonably prevent unauthorized access to or

harvesting of the plants, and the marihuana

produced from the plants must not be made

available for sale.

oops, goes along with the next section...

© Possessing, growing, processing, or

transporting any number of marihuana plants

or their parts that are smaller than those

described in subdivision (b). The plants must

be grown in a manner so as to reasonably

prevent unauthorized access to or harvesting

of the plants, and the marihuana produced

from the plants must not be made available

for sale.

In 2008, Michigan voters approved an act that legalized the use of medical marijuana in the state. Since then, more than 96,000 people in the State of Michigan have become registered patients, spawning a massive network of growers and caregivers who cultivate and sell medical marijuana, as well as retail locations who sell it, known as dispensaries.

Since the bill passed the retail marijuana world has operated without much interference from law enforcement, despite the fact that in 2013 a state Supreme Court ruling determined that medical marijuana dispensaries are illegal.

The exact number of dispensaries in the city of Detroit wasn’t known until last week when Loveland Technologies, a Detroit-based digital mapping firm, released a report outlining the name and location of each and every visible medical marijuana dispensary the City of Detroit.

Screen-Shot-2015-10-15-at-10.54.30-AM.pnLoveland’s Map of dispensaries in the City of Detroit. Dispensaries designated by green dots.

The results revealed that 148 dispensaries are currently operating in the city limits – and there may be more. As noted by the authors, it’s entirely possible that more dispensaries exist but they may not be visible to the naked eye, nor listed for anyone to find.

With growing concerns from some city residents as well as elected officials about the plethora of dispensaries, especially those in close proximities to parks, school, and those in already troubled neighborhoods, the findings prompted City Council member James Tate to propose how to address the rapidly growing dispensary industry.

Thus, on Tuesday the Detroit City Council passed the first ever regulations for the city’s medical marijuana industry.

Approved by a vote of 6-1 (with two council members not present), the new rules set by council will require the shops to obtain a city license or face immediate shut down.

Operators of the shops would also be subject to a police background check, and current operations that feature a drive-through option would be no longer be able to provide that service. The ordinance will also establish an inspection process and prohibit shops from staying open 24 hours a day.

The licensing regulation is one of two new pieces of legislation that councilman James Tate proposed last month to create accountability standards for medical marijuana shops. The other proposal relates to zoning and suggests limits on how close the shops can operate near schools, churches, parks and other dispensaries.

The ordinance passed Tuesday will not go into effect until the zoning regulations are sorted out.

“I encourage you to get in your car and drive to one of these facilities and park and just watch who goes in,” Detroit resident Pam Winestine told a hearing on Thursday. “You’re not going to see too many people using a walker or a wheelchair or a cane. Instead you’re going to see lots of young people 18 to 25 years old who appear to be really happy, really healthy and really interested in getting high.”

Another speaker talked about how Detroit is “not the safest city in the world” and that 8 Mile is a safer place to go than other places. It’s important to note that there are very few medical marijuana dispensaries in the suburbs, so Detroit is a destination for patients.

For the record, the one “No” vote on the new ordinance came from Councilman George Cushingberry Jr. His objections have included making sure there’s access as well as the Detroit Police Department not having enough resources to enforce such regulation.

Detroit can be the new Ann Arbor!

So far all the efforts to revitalize Detroit have focused on downtown, The dispensaries can now help revitalize the outer edges of the city.  It might in fact be better to cluster them and put in a Starbucks or Dunkin Donut shop.

  • 3 months later...

"Once recreationally Approved in Michigan, do you think the underground cultivating will become obsolete?" I know there are people that are going to try and keep the black market going like the past, especially the one's who will not be able to obtain a business license, and people who wanna keep cost down by not having to pay the sales tax." I'm sure once legally approved for recreational use this business will be a lot more regulated. Indeed, people will be jeopardizing their life by chancing going against regulated policy! What are your thought?

Regulations spawned the BM. The more regulations the more prolific the BM becomes.

The BM is roughly x 6 the MMMP in Michigan

The BM provides Top Shelf product at Street prices...much less than a dispensary and available for delivery 24hrs a day TAX FREE

The BM is and has been the go to for Ever. We the people will buy from our guy before we pay outrageously priced over taxed subpar product brought from out of state by a guy we don't know at a dispensary.

The republicans war on drugs has been a failure and has instead increased the BM

The Solution is to Abrogate ( Repeal the prohibition of cannabis Completely.)

This would bring those Billions of BM dollars above ground, save the wasted money spent on the war on pot and keep our friends and family out of jail.

Legal Lies leads to more regulations, fees, intrusive inspections, stifiling ordinances.

More regulations leads to more BM

Let's break form that cycle.....Everyone wants to be , closer to Free,,

Free the Weed!
