As Legislature Considers Medical Marijuana Proposals, Facts Must Overcome Fiction, Myths

The economy is hardly healthy with growth stumbling even after nine years of zero interest rates and ten trillion in new debt and astronomical unfunded liabilities.

Rather like claiming Obama is a 'jobs' president. Well, that claim depends on what you ignore, starting with that ten trillion in borrowing to make those jobs. Ten trillion is the equivalent of 300,000,000 thirty-grand-a-year jobs.

Worse yet is the trajectory. Are Obamaphones, Obamacare, and food stamps accomplishments, or a symptom of an economic malaise?

Growth stumbling?  Not even.  Best economic boom in forever.  Gas is $1.80 here. Dow is over 17k. Unemployment is at 5%ish.  If a republican were president, republicans would be screaming to the heavens how great it is. Hahaha.  Sure, there is inequality,... been that way forever, just worse in the last 40 years because of Reagan trickle down voodoo economics coming home to roost in its failure.

Obamaphones are actually "Reaganphones". His law.

Food stamps been around a long time. Not sure why you can blame Obama for the Republican, Corporate and Bush Bankruptcy of the 2000,'s and what it took to recover; with no help from republicans whatsoever.  Blow it up, create chaos and walk away then blame others for the mess you created. The republican way of life..

But let me guess,...not fast enough for you right?

Heh.

It's not a fugging "Obama" phone, pfft.

Rumours get started and folks forget to check their facts.

Lifeline Program for Low-Income Consumers

https://www.fcc.gov/general/lifeline-program-low-income-consumers

Since 1985, the Lifeline program has provided a discount on phone service for qualifying low-income consumers to ensure that all Americans have

the opportunities and security that phone service brings, including being able to connect to jobs, family and emergency services. In 2005, Lifeline discounts

were made available to qualifying low-income consumers on pre-paid wireless service plans in addition to traditional land line service.

Lifeline is part of the Universal Service Fund.

The Lifeline Assistance program was created during the Reagan Administration.  President Reagan's Federal Communications Commission created the

original program in 1984.

Not that any of this matters of course as far as pertaining to the OP.

I am only attempting to show how disinformation is so easily perpetuated...  and then avg joe believes those 'lies' to be truth.

Repeated enough times... well, one might actually believe that ML will indeed "end prohibition". NOT.

I didn't see Obama get rid of any of these programs.

Gas is $1.80 and it's fuking 65 in Dec.  Those 2 don't add up to = good.  Did dems get rid of citizens united?  With Obamacare did it cover MJ?  Why is Obama going after guns and in 8 years we haven't seen anything on legalization except from congress?  Don't you think Obama could've got MJ somewhere with the 60% support for legalization?  How many "good" jobs have been created?  That's getting worse but hey, it's always been that way right(cause the dems don't care enough to change it, just to use it to get your vote)?  Keep thinking the dems are different though.  They just were able to fool you better than the reps.

This is an excellent example of how the Republicans, and Fox News, twist facts in order to make something that is completely harmless look as though it is a Communist Plot.

Whoa there cowboy! The Republicans control the house and senate and most of the governorship's and legislatures. Wouldn't they be more to blame for our current woes?

First off, if you think like a republican, the lifeline program doesn't cost anything. It is a tax break from federal connectivity charges.  They simply have figured out how to take that tax break on a phone bill(6-8 bucks usually) and give people a crappy disposable phone for the same cost. *shrug*

In Republican terms, that is free.

Which woes?  Depends on the agenda.  There is someone responsible for each mess we are in and it can't all be traced back strictly to repubs.  The reason we can't have smart guns is because of a liberal in NJ who overstepped their bounds by making a law that if any smart gun is sold anywhere in the country all other guns become ILLEGAL in NJ.  You can blame that one on a liberal dem.  So if guns are your worry then blame Liberals for trying to take them all away in the first place.  That is the reason you can't get anything to change with guns.  He showed the cards, take them all away.

But of course a dem wouldn't think of taking it away, it may cost votes.

The problem I have with the dems is any problem is congress at the moment because it's run by reps. but any gain is Obama.  You can't take your party to task, you think it's perfect which makes people not trust you.

Did dems get rid of citizens united?

Republicans have filibustered and blocked the bills.

With Obamacare did it cover MJ?

Seriously?  First off, the republicans would block it. Second, Corporations  wont pay for it.

Why is Obama going after guns

Has Obama taken anyone guns?   Hahaha...,  more guns than ever before.  Nice try. Guns and Gun Sellers LOVE Obama.  Gun nuts don't.

And, most people want background checks and terrorists  to not have guns.  NRA and republicans oppose it.  Obama hasn't taken anyones guns. That is nonsense hysteria.

Don't you think Obama could've got MJ somewhere with the 60% support for legalization?

Not with republicans voting 85% or more against all marijuana bills. President cant just change the law aye.  Congress changes laws and republicans have stopped it for decades. If the same amount of republicans supported marijuana as democrats, we would have made ALOT of progress.

How many "good" jobs have been created?

MILLIONS!

Keep thinking the dems are different though.  They just were able to fool you better than the reps.

The democrats are very different. Very.  You may not like them, but they are different.

Apologizes if my opinion about Obama's and the Democrats' contribution to the bipartisan national debt dilemma is misconstrued (yet again) as promoting any Republican for any office.

Make no mistake, pointing out the failings of either party is not an endorsement of the other.

As for Mal's suggestion Obama's economic policies resulted in lower prices at the pump, ludicrous. Total ignorance of the crude oil market and the electronic barrel traders who set those prices. Or the production, transport, refining, distribution and marketing systems and processes that turn subducted sixty-million year-old decayed organic deposits into the crude produced from oil wells.

Oil wells like those at Prudhae Bay.

Ever use the Google Earth ap? Try a search for Drill Site 2, Prudhoe Bay. What you will be looking at are the well houses, flow lines, manifold building and control room at a typical Flow Station One Drill Site.

Don't let the summer view fool you. Nine months or more ithe outside environment there is like the inside of a blast freezer with a wind machine running. And spare a thought for the $30/hour blue-collar guy (outside in the cold) going from well to well once every twelve hours hoping like heck the genie stays in the bottle.

No pension, minimal health insurance (50/50-you pay half, the company pays half), and a 3% match on a 401k.

Think that guy is a Republican? Laughable. But one common trait her is folks are comfortable jumping to conclusions, regardless of the distance.

All the repubs have is hate and fear cause their money can't buy em love.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/donald-trump-middle-east_5671f199e4b0688701dc37fb?utm_hp_ref=politics

WASHINGTON -- Donald Trump is a demagogue who exploits anger and fear to advance his own media stardom in the pursuit of political power. But at least one thing he said during Tuesday's Republican presidential debate was true.

"We have spent $4 trillion trying to topple various people that, frankly, ... if we could have spent that $4 trillion in the United States to fix our roads, our bridges and all of the other problems, our airports and all of the other problems we have, we would have been a lot better off -- I can tell you that right now," Trump said. "We have done a tremendous disservice not only to the Middle East -- we've done a tremendous disservice to humanity. The people that have been killed, the people that have been wiped away, and for what? It's not like we had victory. It's a mess. The Middle East is totally destabilized, a total and complete mess."

Even the leading repub candidate recognizes the disaster the GOP has been to the U.S. And around the world.

Ironic no?

Really? What kind of voters show up when cannabis is on the ballot? What is the ratio of D to R?

The same ones that show up for everything else. I don't think that there are enough pro cannabis voters to tip the ratio on elections for office.

Don't forget about Sen. Jones supporters, they're more likely to show up in large numbers to vote against legalization. They have nothing better to do, bingo doesn't start until 7:00!

But Dumbocrates need a reason to show up. Your Jones supporters are going to show up, anyway.
